About the role#
Society Insurance is looking for an Underwriting Process & Technology Intern for the summer of 2027. This role supports underwriting operational initiatives by assisting with process analysis, requirements gathering, system testing, and data analysis. You will gain exposure to underwriting processes and technology solutions while contributing to projects that enhance operational efficiency.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain underwriting rule, workflow, and reference data inventories.
- Convert requirements into structured test scenarios and execute supervised testing.
- Validate results, document defects, and support retesting efforts.
- Analyze operational data to identify patterns, exceptions, or process friction.
- Create and update process maps, decision records, job aids, and technical documentation.
- Review configuration and documentation for accuracy and traceability.
- Support low-risk configuration changes under direct review.
- Present findings, recommendations, and completed deliverables.
- Shadow business users across various lines of business to understand underwriting workflows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather insights for project deliverables.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree.
- Experience organizing information, analyzing data, or documenting processes through coursework, employment, or projects.
- A willingness to learn technical skills such as SQL, process mapping, testing, and system configuration.
- An interest in commercial underwriting, business processes, data, and problem solving.
- Prior office experience is highly desirable.
- Pursuing a degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field is highly desirable.
