About the role#
This program offers hands-on experience developing, testing, and supporting industrial Level-2 Automation Systems for steel and metals production. You will work alongside experienced engineers to gain exposure to software engineering, process technology, data analysis, and system integration. The role is designed to provide a broad engineering foundation and serves as a potential entry path into future full-time roles within the Level-2 Engineering organization.
What you'll do#
- Assist with software application development and testing.
- Support web-based and desktop user-interface development.
- Help with database development, reporting, and data management.
- Support the implementation and testing of communication interfaces between automation systems.
- Participate in software verification, troubleshooting, and issue tracking.
- Explore AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows.
- Analyze production and process data.
- Validate process-model inputs and outputs.
- Investigate production performance and product quality.
- Develop familiarity with flat-rolling processes and industrial automation.
- Participate in Integration Testing and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
- Execute test procedures and document results.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, specifications, and engineering records.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing and lessons-learned activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Computer, Software, Systems, or Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related STEM field.
- Completion of at least two years of university coursework.
- Availability to work full-time (40 hours/week) on-site.
- Coursework in software development, automation, controls, manufacturing, materials engineering, or process systems.
- Exposure to object-oriented programming concepts.
- Basic knowledge of SQL and databases.
- Familiarity with version-control tools like Git.
- Interest in industrial automation, manufacturing systems, steel production, or process engineering.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
