About the role#
SMS group offers a structured, cohort-based internship for students interested in the metals industry. You will work full-time for 12 weeks, from late May to early August. This is a paid position that provides exposure to various departments, mentorship from experienced professionals, and a chance to join a close-knit intern community. We look for students who show initiative and a desire to grow into leadership roles.
What you'll do#
- Manage a specific project within your department under the guidance of a dedicated lead and mentor.
- Attend weekly cross-functional Discovery Sessions to learn about engineering, operations, finance, and safety.
- Participate in site tours, team events, and global networking opportunities.
- Present your project results to company leadership at the August Capstone event.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering, or Business Administration, Finance, or Operations Management.
- Ability to take ownership of tasks and work well within a team.
- Motivation to learn quickly and develop leadership skills.
- Successful completion of a drug screen and physical capacity profile test.

- Locations include Pittsburgh, Oil City, and East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- This is an on-site, full-time role for Summer 2027.
