About the role#
Embedded firmware functions as the brain stem of our autonomous drones and accessory products. It bridges the gap between algorithms and mechanical hardware. As an intern, you will develop and refine functionality for our current and future product lines. You will work within a team that manages a large portion of the software stack, including bare metal, RTOS microcontroller code, and embedded Linux and Android platforms.
What you'll do#
- Develop and implement embedded software for drones and accessory products like the Skydio Dock.
- Characterize, integrate, and validate key subsystems including cameras, radios, and flight controllers.
- Bring up and debug new hardware.
- Write interfaces and drivers for sensors and other devices.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a junior, senior, or MS-level student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Practical experience writing firmware or embedded code for a physical device.
- Proficiency with C++ for embedded systems and Python for testing and tools development.
- Ability to write clean code with appropriate abstraction boundaries.
- Experience reading schematics and using debugging equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
- A sense of ownership when digging into complex problems.
- Knowledge of embedded Linux userspace and kernel development is a plus.
- Familiarity with debugging systems at the ARM assembly code level is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: San Mateo, California.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
