About the role#
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger is hiring a Technical Intern for our Civil Engineering group in Waltham, Massachusetts. This is a full-time, on-site position for Summer 2027. You will work alongside licensed professionals to gain hands-on experience in a consulting engineering environment.
What you'll do#
- Develop your engineering skills across a wide range of projects, including land development, adaptive re-use, and sustainable design.
- Collaborate with our Geotechnical, Marine, Structural, and Building Technology groups on tasks such as slope stabilization, floodproofing, and drainage systems.
- Organize field data and conduct research to support problem solving and repair design.
- Perform engineering analysis using hand calculations and software under the guidance of our team.
- Assist with the preparation of construction documents, technical specifications, reports, and presentations for clients.
- Utilize software such as Civil3D for data analytics and design tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Civil Engineering.
- Strong academic performance.
- A genuine interest in civil engineering and learning through hands-on work.
- Enthusiasm for developing sophisticated engineering work products.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively within a team.

- Employment Type: Full-time.
- Compensation: Undergraduate students earn $29.25 to $32.50 per hour, graduate students earn $33.75 to $34.75 per hour, and PhD students earn $36.75 per hour. Interns are also eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus.
