About the role#
The Wonder With Me Program provides developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and relationship-based therapeutic services to children from birth to age five and their caregivers. This internship offers graduate students the opportunity to gain clinical experience while working under the supervision of a licensed social worker. Interns work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes mental health clinicians, early childhood educators, and family support specialists.
What you'll do#
- Provide coaching to parents during family visits in foster care offices to support the parent-child dyad.
- Co-facilitate therapeutic parent support groups using evidence-based, trauma-informed curriculum.
- Conduct individual therapeutic sessions with children under the age of five to support healthy socio-emotional development.
- Perform needs assessments to identify the most pressing requirements of caretakers and children.
- Develop resource lists to support healthy parenting, child development, and attachment.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including session notes, treatment plans, and weekly process recordings.
- Participate in weekly clinical supervision and bi-monthly interdisciplinary group supervision.
- Collaborate with caseworkers and educators to support children in visiting rooms, classrooms, and play centers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master of Social Work direct practice program, preferably approaching the second or final year.
- Foundational knowledge of child development, attachment theory, family systems theory, and trauma-informed care.
- Strong interest in infant and early childhood mental health within a community-based setting.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong verbal and written communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual or multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
