About the role#
The MSW Intern for the Wonder With Me Program supports the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Program by delivering developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and relationship-based services. This role is designed for a graduate student seeking clinical experience with children from birth to age five and their caregivers. Interns work under the supervision of a licensed social worker as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes mental health clinicians, early childhood educators, and family support specialists.
What you'll do#
- Provide coaching to parents during family visits in the foster care office to support parent-child dyads.
- Co-facilitate a therapeutic parent support group using an evidence-based curriculum.
- Provide individual therapeutic sessions with children under the age of five to support healthy socio-emotional development.
- Conduct needs assessments to identify the pressing needs of caretakers and children while developing lists of community resources.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including session notes and treatment plans, in accordance with ethical standards.
- Observe and document child development, play behavior, and relational dynamics within therapeutic or educational settings.
- Participate in weekly clinical supervision and bi-monthly interdisciplinary group supervision.
- Collaborate with caseworkers, mental health professionals, and educators to support the social-emotional development of children.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master of Social Work direct practice program.
- Foundational understanding of child development, attachment theory, family systems theory, and trauma-informed care.
- Strong interest in infant and early childhood mental health in a community-based setting.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual or multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
