About the role#
The Dance/Movement Therapy Intern will support the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Program at SCO Family of Services. This role provides clinical experience for a graduate student working with children from birth to age five and their caregivers. You will work under the supervision of a licensed creative arts therapist as part of a team that includes mental health clinicians, educators, and family support specialists. This position offers supervised clinical hours toward ADTA certification and R-DMT eligibility.
What you'll do#
- Co-facilitate or lead individual and group dance/movement therapy sessions for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children and their caregivers.
- Support parent-child dyadic work using movement-based interventions to improve attachment, emotional regulation, and communication.
- Observe and document child development, play behavior, and relational dynamics.
- Participate in clinical supervision and weekly team case conferences.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals and educators to support social-emotional development.
- Assist in planning creative arts-based programming and family engagement events.
- Maintain clinical documentation, including session notes and treatment plans.
- Engage in reflective practice regarding trauma, diversity, and cultural humility.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master’s level Creative Arts Therapy program.
- A strong interest in infant and early childhood mental health and working with underserved communities.
- A foundational understanding of child development, attachment theory, and trauma-informed care.
- Experience with or enthusiasm for working with young children and caregivers.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary, community-based setting.
- Strong communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills are encouraged.
