This position provides technical and analytical support to the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Department at the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific. The role involves research, development, and testing of technologies ranging from seabed to space, including autonomous vehicles, port security, and airborne platforms. You will work alongside Lead Systems Engineers to support project lifecycle activities and assist in the development of engineering processes, such as Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
What you'll do#
- Conduct standardized and experimental engineering support for subsurface and surface autonomous vehicles in laboratory and controlled saltwater environments.
- Perform data analysis using Microsoft Excel and statistical software.
- Compose technical reports, system analyses, and assessments.
- Assist with the development of processes and procedures for ISR data collection and dissemination.
- Participate in Lead Systems Engineer meetings to coordinate engineering events and presentations.
- Conduct literature searches regarding the execution of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices.
- Submit monthly status reports.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior. While any major is eligible, coursework in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biology, or other STEM fields is a plus.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance; US citizenship is required.
- Experience requirements vary by academic level:
- Freshman/Sophomore: Understanding of discipline theories; no work experience required.
- Junior/Senior: Experience in 50% of task requirements and ability to work independently.
- Senior: Experience in 100% of task requirements and ability to accomplish 90% of work independently.
Location & details#
- Work is performed on-site at NIWC Pacific in San Diego, California.
- Candidates must reside in California and live within a commutable distance of SDSU at the time of hire.
- This is a student position limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week.
- Employment is contingent upon a successful background check, including a criminal record check.
