About the role#
This position provides analytical and technical support for research on PFAS-impacted sediments at Navy installations. The work focuses on the deployment of the Remedy and Recontamination Assessment (RARA) array to evaluate the efficacy of sorptive technologies and in-situ stabilization strategies. This is a paid, part-time student role requiring 20 hours of work per week.
What you'll do#
- Mobilize and prepare equipment for RARA deployments.
- Improve RARA units to facilitate groundwater discharge.
- Conduct bench-scale experiments to test sorbents and bioaccumulation following standard protocols.
- Process samples and data collected during field deployments.
- Perform data analysis using Microsoft Excel and statistical software.
- Maintain laboratory facilities, including cleaning glassware and calibrating water quality meters.
- Care for test organisms and cultures.
- Conduct literature searches and assist in report preparation.
What you'll need#
- Must be at the Senior level and currently majoring in Marine Biology, Biology, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Chemistry.
- Must have completed relevant coursework in the requested discipline.
- Experience in 100% of the task requirements and the ability to complete 90% of the work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software.
- US Citizenship is required to meet Department of Defense regulations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Location & details#
- Location: San Diego, California (On-site at NIWC Pacific, Bayside).
- Compensation: $19.67 per hour.
- Requirements: Must reside in California within a commutable distance of SDSU. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.
