About the role#
Samsung Semiconductor is seeking a software engineering intern to join the Power and Thermal Lab. This team develops simulation tools that help memory architecture and packaging teams visualize how designs impact power consumption and heat generation. You will work with real data and production-grade results, contributing to platforms used across the company.
What you'll do#
- Build automation pipelines for simulation runs, regression testing, and result tracking.
- Implement and optimize trace-driven power-thermal simulation engines.
- Generate transient power maps, perform spatiotemporal hotspot analysis, and interface with reduced-order or CFD-calibrated thermal solvers.
- Develop high-fidelity, advanced RTL-, SystemC-, and C-based power macromodels for AI memory component IPs using analytical modeling, LUT, FSM, NN, and their hybrid.
- Extract activity-, value-, and state-dependent power features from C, SystemC, or RTL simulations.
- Define power-relevant functional states using transaction or state-based abstraction.
- Calibrate models using synthesis-assisted anchors and validate against RTL, gate-level, and silicon data.
- Integrate IP-level power macromodels into system-level simulations.
- Manage time-indexed simulation flow across power and thermal domains.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related major.
- Must have at least one academic quarter or semester remaining.
- Experience with C++ and scripting workflows in Python or Bash.
- Knowledge of SystemC and transaction-level modeling.
- Systems-level software-engineering skills.
- Preferred: Experience with RTL design, synthesis, and analysis (Verilog, SystemVerilog, or SystemC).
- Preferred: Familiarity with large-scale simulation or EDA/CFD-adjacent tooling environments.
- Preferred: Familiarity with discrete event or time-stepped simulation architecture.
- Preferred: Experience with GPU, computer architecture, AI memory, memory controllers, PHYs, or high-speed I/O.
Location & details#
- Location: San Jose, California, United States.
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: Paid position.
