About the role#
The Local Cup is a community-run coffee shop in the Near Northwest Neighborhood of South Bend that utilizes a pay-it-forward model to serve a diverse customer base. This fellowship role involves managing daily operations and providing mentorship to teen interns. This is a paid, full-time position for current Saint Mary's College students eligible for Federal Work Study or Community Service.
What you'll do#
- Learn and execute all aspects of coffee shop operations, including opening, drink preparation, brewing, and closing procedures.
- Explain the mission and pay-it-forward model to customers while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.
- Supervise and mentor 1-2 teen interns, including working alongside them behind the counter.
- Attend weekly Site Leader meetings, bi-weekly teen leadership training, and initial Site Leader training at the start of the semester.
- Ensure compliance with all health codes and maintain a clean workspace.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at Saint Mary's College with eligibility for Federal Work Study or Community Service.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and a mature, enthusiastic attitude.
- Ability to lead others, take initiative, and work with minimal direct supervision.
- Organizational skills and the ability to stay focused in a busy environment.
- Reliability and the ability to relate to people from various backgrounds.
- Reliable access to transportation by car or bicycle.
- Preferred majors include Communications, Business Administration, or Psychology.
