    About the role#

    This full-time internship provides an introduction to water operations and system maintenance. Under the supervision of the Utilities Manager, the intern will gain the necessary experience and training to pursue MDEQ F-4 and S-4 licensure. This role requires on-call availability, including rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

    What you'll do#

    • Monitor daily water usage, clean well houses, and install or repair pumps.
    • Operate valves and pumps, and maintain proper chemical levels in the water supply.
    • Perform water analysis, including testing for chlorine residual, alkalinity, hardness, turbidity, fluoride, and iron.
    • Collect and prepare daily bacteria samples, transporting them to the laboratory as needed.
    • Record equipment readings, inspect generators, and maintain water towers and fire hydrants.
    • Perform preventative maintenance, yard work, and equipment cleaning.
    • Assist with meter reading and new home water hookups.
    • Provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

    What you'll need#

    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Membership in the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
    • Completion of a math test prior to the interview.
    • Strong communication and diagnostic skills.
    • Ability to perform manual labor, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in various weather conditions or confined spaces.
    • Willingness to perform janitorial and groundskeeping duties.
    • Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License and ability to qualify for a Tribal Driver’s License.
