About the role#
SageSure is hiring a Data Ops Engineer Intern to join our Product Development team. This is a 10-week program designed to provide hands-on experience with actuarial data workflows. You will work alongside actuaries and data scientists to support business decisions through data validation, query updates, and process documentation. This role is ideal for a student interested in data, analytics, insurance, or technology who wants to build practical technical and communication skills.
What you'll do#
- Learn how actuarial data is gathered, prepared, validated, and used for business decisions.
- Rewrite, update, and test existing SQL queries as data platforms evolve.
- Compare results from updated queries to prior outputs to identify differences in premiums, exposures, losses, or other key measures.
- Perform data quality checks for missing values, duplicates, and unexpected results.
- Document data sources, business rules, and query logic in an organized manner.
- Partner with data professionals on ad hoc projects and process improvements.
- Receive coaching and feedback to build your technical and business communication skills.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- An anticipated graduation date in 2027 or 2028.
- Coursework or project experience using SQL.
- Exposure to R, Python, or other data analysis tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reasoning skills.
- Attention to detail and a willingness to ask questions when data results seem incorrect.
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical partners.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Prior experience with data, analytics, reporting, or databases is a plus.
- Familiarity with relational databases, Git, cloud data platforms, or modern data warehouses is helpful.
- Interest in property and casualty insurance, actuarial analytics, or data operations.
