About the role#
As a Software Engineering Intern on the Edge team, you will work at the boundary between physical systems in senior living communities and the cloud infrastructure that powers the Sage platform. You will ship production code, work alongside a mentor, and present your work to the engineering organization at the end of the summer. This role focuses on our fleet of thousands of gateways, sensors, and pendants that must run reliably in diverse network environments.
What you'll do#
- Design, build, and ship a project that solves a real problem for the Edge team.
- Write backend services in Java to interact with a large fleet of on-premise devices.
- Work with Linux-based edge devices by flashing, configuring, and debugging hardware.
- Build tooling to improve fleet observability and help the team diagnose hardware and connectivity issues.
- Participate in code reviews and design discussions with the engineering team.
- Learn how production IoT systems spanning LoRaWAN, BLE, and cloud services operate at scale.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Solid programming fundamentals in Java, Python, or another object-oriented language.
- Familiarity with Linux and comfort working in a terminal.
- Curiosity about how software meets hardware, such as networking, radios, embedded systems, or IoT.
- A bias toward tinkering, such as experience taking things apart or debugging complex systems.
- Clear communication skills and an eagerness to ask questions.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship at $50/hour.
- The term runs from June 7, 2027, to August 13, 2027.
