S&B is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join the team in New Orleans, Louisiana, for the Summer 2026 term. Under the supervision of senior engineers, you will perform routine assignments using standard design techniques and procedures. This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship.
What you'll do#
- Support the preparation of finite element models for static and dynamic analyses, including global strength and spectral fatigue analyses.
- Conduct structural design and analysis for both new and existing marine structures.
- Perform structural analysis using standard beam analysis software and manual calculations to provide engineering conclusions.
- Document analysis methodology, results, and conclusions in technical reports.
- Apply knowledge of marine engineering guidelines, such as ABS and DNV rules.
- Occasionally participate in field trips to operating plants or construction sites, which may involve exposure to outdoor weather, noise, and industrial environments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program for Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies at an accredited college or university.
- Working knowledge of computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment to manage multiple projects.
- Strong mathematical skills, including proficiency in geometry, trigonometry, and statistical inference.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Previous internship experience is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with industry software such as Matlab, Python, VBA, Rhinoceros 3D, or Solidworks is a plus.
