S&B is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join the team in Houston, Texas, for the Summer 2026 term. This full-time, paid internship involves performing routine structural design and analysis tasks under the supervision of senior engineers. You will contribute to projects within the marine industry, applying standard design techniques and procedures to support the development of new and existing marine structures.
What you'll do#
- Support the preparation of finite element models for static and dynamic analyses, including global strength and spectral fatigue assessments.
- Conduct structural analysis using standard beam analysis software and perform hand calculations to provide engineering conclusions.
- Perform structural design and analysis for both new and existing marine structures.
- Document analysis methodology, results, and conclusions in technical reports.
- Collaborate in a team environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, Aerospace, or Biomedical Engineering, with at least two years of undergraduate studies completed.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Working knowledge of computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment.
- Familiarity with marine engineering guidelines, such as ABS or DNV Rules.
- Preferred experience includes previous internships and proficiency in software such as Matlab, Python, VBA, Rhinoceros 3D, or Solidworks.
- Ability to interpret technical documents and communicate effectively with team members.
