About the role#
S&B is seeking an Intern Structural Engineer to join the team in Houston, Texas, for the Summer 2026 term. This role involves performing routine assignments under the supervision of senior engineers and specialists. You will apply standard design techniques and procedures while contributing to marine industry projects.
What you'll do#
- Support the preparation of finite element models for static and dynamic analyses, including global strength and spectral fatigue analyses.
- Perform structural design and analysis for both new and existing marine structures.
- Conduct structural analysis using standard beam analysis software and perform hand calculations to provide engineering conclusions.
- Document analysis methodology, results, and conclusions in technical reports.
- Work in a team environment or independently to execute multiple projects simultaneously.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, Aerospace, or Biomedical Engineering, with at least two years of undergraduate studies completed.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Familiarity with marine engineering guidelines such as ABS Rules and DNV Rules.
- Working knowledge of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment.
- Preferred experience includes previous internships and proficiency in Matlab, Python, VBA, Rhinoceros 3D, or Solidworks.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, write reports, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to perform field visits to operating plants or construction sites, which may involve physical requirements such as lifting up to 25 pounds.
