About the role#
The Combustion Aerothermal Systems department designs and validates the combustion sections of turboprop, turbofan, and turboshaft engines. This internship focuses on the CFD prediction and validation of NOx emissions produced during the combustion process in gas turbine engines. You will work within the Turbomachinery organization to support the aerothermal design process through numerical simulations and engine data validation.
What you'll do#
- Prepare combustion chamber geometry using ANSYS CAD tools and generate meshes using ANSYS meshing software.
- Perform combustion CFD simulations in ANSYS Fluent with a focus on NOx prediction.
- Review existing NOx prediction models from literature and compare them to current ANSYS Fluent models.
- Analyze combustor NOx data from engine testing to identify key variables.
- Implement new NOx models from literature surveys into ANSYS Fluent.
- Compare CFD predictions against actual engine data.
- Summarize your findings and document them in a formal report.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Canadian university as a Master or PhD candidate in Mechanical, Aerospace, Engineering Physics, or Chemical Engineering.
- Eligibility to work in Canada.
- Proficiency in ANSYS CAD tools, such as SpaceClaim, Design Modeller, or Discovery.
- Experience with ANSYS mesh generators like Fluent mesher or Workbench mesher.
- Proficiency in ANSYS Fluent or similar combustion CFD codes.
- Solid understanding of fluid mechanics, combustion sciences, and multiphase flows.
- Programming skills in C, C++, Python, or MATLAB.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Exposure to combustion CFD is considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: 1801 Courtneypark Dr. E, Mississauga, Ontario.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 5th to April 23rd, 2027).
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- This is a paid internship position.
