About the role#
RMS Energy Co, LLC is hiring an Electrical Engineer Intern to support electrical power system design and technical analysis. This role focuses on power system protection, controls, and equipment maintenance. You will work within our Engineering Services department as part of a team committed to safety and technical growth.
What you'll do#
- Assist with engineering design and analysis for electrical power systems.
- Create written specifications for equipment like transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and motor control centers.
- Perform short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis.
- Generate drawing packages and installation plans for equipment upgrades and relay replacements.
- Design control circuits for substation equipment.
- Develop relay settings for both electromechanical and modern electronic relays.
- Review existing customer power systems to recommend improvements or expansions.
- Provide technical data to field services teams and occasionally assist them on site.
- Maintain a focus on safety when working around electrical equipment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an electrical engineering degree program or a related field.
- Completion of coursework in power systems is expected. Previous internship or work experience in the power industry is a plus.
- Familiarity with electrical systems, wiring, and standard equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with tools like SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, or AutoCAD is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.
- Time management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
- A self-driven approach and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- A valid driver's license.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Wisconsin and allows for remote work.
- Travel is required for approximately 10-15% of the role.
- This is a paid, full-time internship with a rolling start date.
