About the role#
This externship program provides practical experience for veterinary students entering their 4th year. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience in a small animal practice. The program is flexible, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to fit your college curriculum. You will be assigned a mentor who will provide instruction and a final written evaluation of your performance.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in all aspects of patient care. Your daily tasks include:
- Gathering clinical histories and performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrubbing in to surgery and assisting in medical case management.
- Providing wellness care.
- Developing client communication skills.
- Producing medical records (SOAPs) within the time limits of daily practice.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program, specifically entering your 4th year.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- A professional demeanor and adherence to practice standards.
