About the role#
This externship program provides 4th year veterinary students with practical experience in a small animal practice. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience that complements your clinical education. Rotations typically last two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to align with your college curriculum. Your schedule will include a mix of days, evenings, and weekends. A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in all aspects of patient care, including:
- Gather patient histories
- Perform physical examinations
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans
- Scrub in to surgery
- Assist in the management of medical cases
- Provide wellness care
- Develop client communication skills
- Polish technical skills
- Produce medical records (SOAPs)
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program
- Must be entering your 4th year
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Current professional liability insurance, with a certificate of coverage submitted at the time of application

This is an on-site role based in Manhattan, New York. Placements are subject to hospital availability.
