About the role#
The system architecture department works at the intersection of hardware development, manufacturing, and quantum architecture. You will help design the first fault-tolerant quantum computer by discovering new schemes for photonic quantum computation and translating abstract protocols into physical system designs.
This is a paid, full-time internship. We hire on a rolling basis for durations of 3 to 6 months.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to ongoing optical architecture technical projects.
- Write prototype software to control and simulate optical networks.
- Apply quantum information theory, network design, and optimization to improve architecture.
- Develop and discover new approaches to photonic quantum computing.
- Simulate and benchmark different protocols.
- Document and communicate your findings to the team.
What you'll need#
- A degree in Physics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field.
- Current enrollment in or a recent graduate of a postgraduate degree program, with a preference for PhD candidates.
- Programming experience in Python, C++, Julia, or similar languages.
- Ability to work closely with others and communicate effectively.
- Familiarity with collaborative software development tools like GitHub is helpful.
- Knowledge of quantum optics, photonic hardware, switch network design, optimization, or graph theory is preferred.
