This internship supports the optical packaging and characterization team. The role is designed for students with a foundation in optics who are interested in hands-on work with optical microscopy, image analysis, and data reporting. You will work under engineer supervision to document methods, collect measurement data, and support experiments related to surface metrology and optical measurement.
What you'll do#
- Assist with optical microscopy setup, imaging, and the capture of measurement images and metadata.
- Support image processing workflows using Python or similar tools to produce clear tables and plots.
- Draft and update standard operating procedures and work instructions for optical measurement.
- Organize experimental data, maintain lab notes, and assist with design-of-experiments summaries.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts regarding documentation, data organization, and measurement repeatability.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, or a closely related field.
- Coursework or practical experience with optical microscopy, including imaging modes, resolution, illumination, and basic alignment.
- Strong attention to detail and clear written communication skills.
- Experience with image processing or Python coding for data handling and analysis is a plus.
- Familiarity with JMP or similar statistical software for data exploration and visualization is a plus.
- Interest in or exposure to optical measurement methods, such as alignment and beam matching, is a plus.
