About the role#
Plus is seeking a Research Engineer Intern to join the Controls team. This role focuses on advancing autonomous truck control systems through joint lateral and longitudinal planning and modeling.
What you'll do#
- Generate joint lateral and longitudinal control action planning.
- Expand the lateral nonlinear MPC to include longitudinal speed adjustment by incorporating acceleration as a decision variable.
- Develop a combined slip tire model by leveraging longitudinal speed coupling.
- Reallocate the longitudinal MPC to consume lateral optimized speed traces.
- Implement iterative lateral and longitudinal control, including logic to reduce target speed and recompute commands when lateral offsets cannot be corrected due to steering rate limits.
- Utilize existing data-driven vehicle model simulations to evaluate and deploy control strategies.
What you'll need#
- Proficiency in modern C++ and Python.
- Strong academic or project background in robotics, planning, optimal control, and dynamics.
- Experience or coursework in deep learning (DL) or reinforcement learning (RL).
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Data Science.
Location & details#
- Location: Santa Clara, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: Paid position.
