Machine Learning Engineer Intern

About the role#

Plus is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer Intern to join the Planning team for the Summer 2026 term. This role focuses on processing autonomous driving data to identify and categorize specific driving events, such as lane changes, merges, and hard braking, to support model training, evaluation, and offline metric analysis.

What you'll do#

• Develop a pipeline to ingest and synchronize disparate data streams, including raw camera frames and structured proto modules from Perception, Planning, and Control systems.
• Design and train temporal models, such as Video Transformers, LSTMs, or 1D-CNNs, to recognize and categorize discrete driving behaviors.

What you'll need#

• Experience working with temporal data, specifically in time-series analysis or video understanding.
• Proficiency in Python and data handling libraries including Pandas, NumPy, and PyArrow/Parquet for large-scale protobuf data.
• A strong foundation in classification and supervised learning techniques.
• Preferred qualifications include experience with distributed processing frameworks like Spark or Ray and an understanding of autonomous driving challenges.

• This is a full-time, paid internship located on-site in Santa Clara, California.
• Candidates must be pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Mathematics.
