About the role#
This internship provides exposure to the various functions of an airline safety department. You will report to the Manager of Safety Programs and assist in maintaining a safe environment for our employees and customers. This is a full-time, paid position that offers travel privileges on the American Airlines network.
What you'll do#
- Process Aviation Safety Reports submitted through the online employee Safety Reporting System.
- Investigate reports from the Aviation Safety Action Programs and the Fatigue Risk Management Plan.
- Research safety concerns, create presentations, and review manuals.
- Help develop safety solutions, including the publication of Safety Bulletins and newsletters.
- Assist with the administration of the Flight Operations Quality Assurance program.
- Analyze observations from the Line Operational Safety Audit.
- Prepare data and reports for the Safety Assurance groups within the Safety Management System.
- Manage data entry, data analysis, and various project development tasks.
- Interact with Flight and Maintenance departments, which may involve some travel.
What you'll need#
- At least one year of progress toward an undergraduate degree in safety or aviation/aeronautical science.
- Status as a junior or senior undergraduate student is preferred.
- General knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, OSHA regulations, and airline safety procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, solve problems, and meet deadlines.
- You must be at least 18 years old and provide proof of high school or GED completion.
- Prior work experience in an office environment and knowledge of Tableau are preferred.
- Employment is contingent upon a clear driving record, a 10-year criminal history records check, and a drug screen.
