About the role#
As a Software Engineering Intern, you will join our technology teams to support digital transformation efforts at Pacific Life. You will work within an enterprise environment, gaining exposure to areas such as cloud engineering, application delivery, integration development, and information security. This role is a full-time position for Summer 2027 based in Newport Beach, California.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to technology delivery and operations teams to develop and deploy enterprise solutions.
- Collaborate with technologists and stakeholders to plan, design, and implement digital technologies.
- Evaluate business needs to assess the fit of various technology solutions.
- Develop and debug software enhancements or new programs for existing and new applications.
- Review system requirements and business processes to create program logic.
- Code, test, document, and maintain software applications.
- Develop system implementation plans and prepare documentation for installation and maintenance.
- Train users on new system conversions and implementations.
- Gain experience with delivery practices such as Agile scrum.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or C#.
- A solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software design principles.
- Familiarity with public cloud platforms, preferably AWS, though Azure or GCP experience is also considered.
- Knowledge of industry tools and platforms for software delivery and automation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts clearly.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A desire to learn new technologies, analytic tools, and quantitative techniques.
- Interest in solving business problems through code, demonstrated via coursework or personal projects.
Location & details#
- This internship is located on-site in Newport Beach, California.
- The position is full-time for the Summer 2027 term.
- This is a paid internship. Undergraduates receive $25.00 per hour, and those pursuing advanced degrees receive $30.00 per hour.
- A relocation stipend is available for those residing more than 50 miles from the office.
