About the role#
As an R&D Engineering Intern at JLG, you will work alongside experienced engineers on a variety of projects. This role involves both office-based analytical work and hands-on activity on the assembly floor. You will contribute to the development of access equipment through design, testing, and technical support.
What you'll do#
- Design, model, and test new mechanical systems.
- Research and execute continuous improvement requests to support manufacturing and supply chain operations.
- Prepare, revise, and review vehicle component layouts using CAD software.
- Create and manage Engineering Change Notices using the PLM system.
- Update bills of materials in the PDM system.
- Provide technical assistance on the assembly floor during prototype, pilot, or production builds.
- Generate engineering calculations for weight distribution, stress analysis, and performance estimations.
- Consult with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to solve technical problems.
- Assist in the testing of complete vehicles and individual components.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program for mechanical engineering or a related field.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a clear interest in mechanical design.
- Understanding of basic steel and sheet metal fabrication principles.
- Familiarity with the construction industry and related equipment.
- Experience with CAD systems such as Creo Parametric, Pro-E, or CATIA.
- Participation in extracurricular activities like SAE teams.
- Previous internship or work-related experience.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
