About the role#
NYISO is looking for a Co-Op student to join the Technical Security team. You will support enterprise security platforms, threat detection, and security analytics. This role focuses on improving operational efficiency through documentation, data analysis, and the evaluation of new tools. You will work alongside cybersecurity and infrastructure professionals to monitor and protect the electricity system.
What you'll do#
- Document architecture for security platforms, including system components, data flows, and dependencies.
- Create reports and dashboards for platform health, security coverage, and operational metrics.
- Develop and tune SIEM detection rules to identify anomalous network behavior.
- Analyze alert trends to reduce false positives and identify tuning opportunities.
- Conduct structured threat-hunting activities to spot anomalies.
- Design dashboards to monitor high-risk user and asset activities.
- Evaluate AI-assisted tools to automate alert triage and improve incident response.
- Review and update technical documentation and operational procedures.
- Contribute technical information for employee security-awareness communications.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of cybersecurity, computer networking, and Windows environments.
- Strong writing skills for technical documentation.
- Analytical abilities to interpret technical information and identify patterns.
- Interest in threat detection, security monitoring, or incident response.
- Ability to work independently and learn new technologies.
- Familiarity with security tools, scripting, or data analysis is preferred. Experience with PowerShell, Python, or Kusto Query Language is helpful.

- This is a paid, full-time hybrid position based in Rensselaer, New York.
- You must be local to the Albany, New York area.
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a drug screening and background check.
