About the role#
This internship is a full-time, paid position for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on-site in Lehi, Utah, as part of the Data and Analytics team. You will report to the Data and Analytics manager, receiving hands-on mentorship and regular code reviews. This role is designed for a PhD candidate who wants to apply research skills to live business problems within a marketplace that operates across the United States.
What you'll do#
- Improve lifetime value and unit economics models by retraining, re-engineering features, and validating predictions.
- Audit existing models to identify stale assumptions, performance gaps, or ineffective features.
- Build forecasts for demand, supply, revenue, and the levers that influence them.
- Partner with Product, Marketing, and Sales teams to design and analyze A/B tests.
- Become a subject matter expert on the product, user behavior, and the marketing life cycle.
- Communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders clearly and candidly.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a PhD program in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or Data Science, with an expected graduation date by May 2028.
- A provided transcript.
- Research, coursework, or project experience applying statistics and machine learning to complex datasets.
- Strong SQL skills and fluency in Python for modeling.
- Academic or project-based experience with A/B testing design or statistical hypothesis testing.
- A solid grounding in inference and the ability to explain statistical concepts like confidence intervals and p-values.
- A problem-solving mindset and the ability to diagnose and improve existing code.
- Intellectual persistence when investigating data discrepancies.
