About the role#
The Medicaid and Long-Term Care team at the Department of Health and Human Services is seeking an intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role provides hands-on experience in state Medicaid policy, program planning, and legislative implementation. You will work alongside policy staff, legal partners, and program specialists to support Nebraska Medicaid priorities and improve program outcomes for beneficiaries.
What you'll do#
- Support the planning, tracking, and coordination of Medicaid-specific implementation projects.
- Assist with the rollout of initiatives related to federal changes and bills passed during the 2026 Nebraska legislative session.
- Conduct research and analysis on Medicaid policy, eligibility, benefits, and federal guidance.
- Draft one-pagers, presentations, meeting notes, and internal communications.
- Support program planning by identifying operational impacts and compliance considerations.
- Organize project materials and implementation documents to assist with team coordination.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, or graduation within the last year.
- Academic background in Public Health, Political Science, Health Administration, Communications, or Journalism.
- Strong interest in Medicaid, public health, and public policy.
- Experience drafting written materials for broad audiences.
- Ability to translate complex information into plain language.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and similar productivity tools.
