The Nebraska Department of Transportation's Bridge Division is seeking a student to assist in the design and detailing of the state's bridge infrastructure. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in bridge engineering while working with a team responsible for maintaining over 3,500 state-owned bridges.
What you'll do#
- Gain experience in reading and interpreting bridge construction plans.
- Develop technical skills in geometric design and detailing.
- Learn to utilize specialized bridge engineering software.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including experts in structural, hydrology, hydraulics, geotechnical, roadway, materials, and environmental engineering.
- Participate in in-the-field opportunities to observe bridge construction processes.
What you'll need#
- Must be a three-fourths time student in good standing.
- Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Engineering, or Graphic Design.
- Preferred: A.A.S. Design & Drafting Technology student with relevant coursework.
- Ability to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
- Must submit class schedules at the beginning of employment to verify enrollment.
- Strong communication, time management, and accountability skills, with an aptitude for learning new computer applications.
Location & details#
- Location: Lincoln, Nebraska.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment duration: Up to 2 years, contingent on continued proof of enrollment in an accredited college.
- Full-time work may be available during academic breaks.
