About the role#
This is a casual, on-site Pharmacy Intern position at Nebraska Methodist Hospital. You will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to support pharmacy operations that do not require professional pharmacist judgment. This role requires flexibility, as you will work on an as-needed basis with a schedule that includes one evening shift per week and every other weekend.
What you'll do#
- Triage medication requests, determine priorities, and notify pharmacists of orders.
- Manufacture, package, and label drug products.
- Perform aseptic compounding of parenteral admixtures and other sterile dosage forms, including documentation of quality control.
- Manage the Unit Dose area, including Omnicell, and operate pharmacy equipment such as carousels and packagers.
- Handle and deliver hazardous drugs.
- Manage the record keeping and dispensing of controlled substances and non-formulary drugs.
- Address and fill crash carts, kits, and trays.
- Complete Omnicell pending tasks and loads, and manage medication credits.
- Interact with health care team members and assist in training new pharmacy employees.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow all safety protocols.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Current admission to a nationally recognized School of Pharmacy program.
- Registration with the State of Nebraska DHHS as a Pharmacy Intern prior to your start date. If you do not have this registration upon hiring, you must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician and complete your Intern registration within 180 days.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- No current drug or alcohol addiction and no convictions of drug-related misdemeanors or felonies.
- Basic knowledge of chemistry, arithmetic, algebra, reading, and writing.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Outlook and Word.
- Ability to interpret medication requests and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly with hospital personnel and patients.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force.
