    About the role#

    NRDC is seeking a cohort of Summer Legal Interns to support attorneys across core issue areas including Human Health, Equity and Justice, Climate and Energy, and Nature. This is a paid, full-time internship for law students. The program provides exposure to the legal and policy advocacy used to protect the environment and public health.

    What you'll do#

    Interns play an active role in supporting legal and policy projects. Responsibilities include:

    • Researching and preparing legal memos for litigation and rulemaking proceedings.
    • Interviewing NRDC members and preparing standing declarations.
    • Drafting and reviewing pleadings and briefs.
    • Preparing comments for submission to administrative agencies or legislative bodies.
    • Crafting proposed legislation to address environmental and public health challenges.

    What you'll need#

    This internship is designed for current law school students. We welcome applicants who are eager to develop their skills in legal writing, research, and communication. Key qualifications include:

    • Strong legal writing, analytical, and oral communication skills.
    • A commitment to public service, equity, or justice.
    • A growth mindset and openness to feedback.
    • Experience working effectively on a team.
    • Creativity and resourcefulness.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Chicago, Illinois.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Modality: Hybrid. Interns are expected to be in the office 3 days per week, specifically Tuesdays through Thursdays.
    • Compensation: This is a paid position with a stipend of $10,000, paid bi-weekly over the 10-week term.
