About the role#
The Advanced Computing Solutions Group is looking for a graduate student researcher to join the team in Golden, Colorado. You will focus on connected and automated vehicle communications modeling, specifically through data analysis and machine learning. Because field-testing vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology at scale is cost-prohibitive, this role centers on simulation to understand how these systems affect traffic.
What you'll do#
- Clean, process, and analyze large-scale V2X field-test logs to characterize communication performance based on distance, device density, and environmental conditions.
- Help calibrate and validate microscopic LTE-V2X communication models using field-test data.
- Develop and train machine-learning surrogate models of V2X behavior and evaluate their accuracy and computational efficiency.
- Write well-documented Python code and execute workflows on high-performance computing systems.
- Document your findings and contribute to technical reports, presentations, and publications.
What you'll need#
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
- Current enrollment as a full-time student in a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program, or graduation from such a program within the past 12 months.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis using libraries such as pandas, NumPy, and Matplotlib.
- Experience applying machine learning to scientific or engineering data using tools like scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Coursework or project experience in wireless communications, networking, transportation engineering, or data science.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work on a multi-laboratory team.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, full-time internship located in Golden, Colorado.
- Employment is subject to a pre-employment drug test, including for marijuana.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card.
