About the role#
As a Student Labourer, you will support the maintenance of public spaces and infrastructure across the municipality. This role requires flexibility and teamwork, as your daily tasks will change based on departmental needs.
What you'll do#
- Mow and trim grass and perform horticultural bed maintenance.
- Groom sports fields.
- Collect litter and waste, including roadside garbage pickup.
- Assist with traffic control and road patching.
- Perform other assigned duties as required by the department.
What you'll need#
- You must be between 15 and 30 years old and legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Availability is required from April 26 to August 27, 2027, with no vacation time permitted during this period.
- You must possess a valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License and provide a satisfactory driver abstract.
- You must be physically capable of heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and walking on uneven surfaces in all weather conditions.
- You need strong communication skills and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- You must provide your own safety green patch footwear and long navy blue pants.
- You are responsible for your own transportation to and from your assigned depot.
- A satisfactory criminal record check is required.
- You must achieve a minimum score of 60% on mandatory written and oral assessments.
- Standard First Aid and CPR C certification, as well as Health and Safety/WHMIS training, are preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
- Work is on-site at various locations including Newcastle, Orono, and Hampton, Ontario.
- You will work 40 hours per week, which includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
