About the role#
The Municipality of Clarington is hiring a Student Engineering Technician for the summer of 2027. This full-time position reports to the Capital Works Supervisor and supports the municipal infrastructure inspection program. You will spend your time in the field collecting data and assessing the condition of local assets.
What you'll do#
- Inspect all municipal sidewalks to identify hazards and document deficiencies.
- Collect infrastructure data and conduct condition assessments.
- Assist construction inspectors with payment measurements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent completion of a Civil Engineering post-secondary program.
- Must be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment.
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
- Availability from April 26 to August 27, 2027, without vacation time.
- A valid Class G Ontario Driver License and a clean drivers abstract.
- Access to a reliable personal vehicle for daily use.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and walk for long periods on uneven surfaces.
- Capacity to work in all weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Professional interpersonal skills for interacting with the public.
- Own safety green patch footwear.
- A satisfactory criminal record check is required prior to starting.
- Standard First Aid, CPR C, and WHMIS training are preferred assets.

- Compensation: $23.17 per hour.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
