About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern at Mount Sinai Brooklyn, you will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to support daily clinical operations. This position involves managing medication inventory, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations. You will assist in the preparation and distribution of medications for inpatients, outpatients, and employees.
What you'll do#
- Prepare, prepackage, and label medications.
- Fill unit dose cassettes and maintain associated records.
- Audit controlled substance records and ensure proper storage.
- Issue controlled substances and prescription pads according to departmental policy.
- Process controlled substance returns and receive new products into inventory.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and required balances.
- Advise nursing and pharmacy managers of any discrepancies and assist in their resolution.
- Obtain necessary signatures when issuing or delivering controlled substances.
- Maintain an accurate, current census for all assigned areas, including cassette bin labels.
- Keep files of all receipts for the 24-hour period prior to the return of disposition records.
- Ensure every transaction is verified by a pharmacist before dispensing.
What you'll need#
- Current NYS Pharmacy intern permit.
- Minimum of three years completed at an accredited college of pharmacy.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- English proficiency in both oral and written communication.
- Previous hospital experience or completion of a Technician Training Program is preferred.
