About the role#
The CMC Development team at Moderna designs manufacturing processes for mRNA medicines. As an intern, you will join project teams focused on developing manufacturing platforms for therapeutics and vaccines destined for clinical trials and commercial use. You will apply your academic background to learn technical skills in mRNA synthesis, lipid nanoparticle assembly, and drug product formulation while developing an understanding of control strategies for high-quality manufacturing.
What you'll do#
- Generate experimental results, analyze data, and document findings in formal reports.
- Perform process scale-up and support technology transfer and manufacturing activities.
- Participate in the planning, design, execution, and analysis of experiments and risk assessments.
- Optimize formulation and processing conditions to improve the stability of mRNA drug products.
- Characterize mRNA and lipid nanoparticles in collaboration with the analytical team.
- Create scaled-down models and high-throughput experimental setups for unit operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters program in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields.
- Strong fundamental scientific and engineering skills for evaluating experimental data.
- Laboratory skills applicable to bioprocess development and analytical methods.
- Valid work authorization in the United States without the need for future sponsorship.

- This internship is based on-site in Norwood, Massachusetts.
- The term runs from June 7, 2027, through August 20, 2027.
- This is a full-time, paid position.
