About the role#
MERL is looking for an intern to develop and validate algorithms for heterogeneous mobile robot autonomy. You will work directly with aerial and ground robotic platforms. This role focuses on translating research into physical experiments. We expect the results of this work to lead to publications in robotics, control, automation, or computer vision conferences and journals.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate on algorithm development for autonomous mobile robots.
- Perform hands-on work with multiple robotic platforms.
- Integrate sensors and debug physical experiments.
- Deploy algorithms on real robots.
- Contribute to research in perception-driven autonomy, multi-robot planning, and heterogeneous robot coordination.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Masters or PhD program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a focus on Robotics or Control Systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with robotic hardware and physical experiments.
- Proficiency in Python and C/C++.
- Experience with ROS2-enabled mobile robots.
- Knowledge in multi-agent planning, perception, computer vision, or optimization.
- Preferred experience includes image-based 3D reconstruction, visual SLAM, multi-robot coordination, motion planning, and trajectory optimization.
