    About the role#

    This co-op position supports technical staff with research and program execution within the Mechanical Engineering Group. You will contribute to projects involving laser communication, high-energy lasers, telescopes, hypersonics, and radar systems. The role covers the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design to system integration and testing.

    What you'll do#

    • Develop engineering concepts and part models using SolidWorks, including generating drawings and managing assemblies.
    • Perform structural analysis by creating and running finite element models, analyzing results, and conducting thermal or structural testing.
    • Engage in hands-on prototyping, 3D printing, and the assembly and integration of mechanical, opto-mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems.
    • Design and execute tests, followed by the collection and analysis of performance data.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an undergraduate program for Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics/Astronautics, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics.
    • Completion of a Mechanics of Materials course or equivalent.
    • A minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0.
    • Enrollment in a formal university co-op program.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
    • Experience with CAD, finite element analysis, or prototyping is preferred.

    • Compensation: $25 – $32 per hour, based on year in school
