About the role#
Minerals Technologies Inc. is hiring a Production & Processing Intern for our facility in Canaan, Connecticut. This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship. You will work alongside experienced professionals to solve real business challenges, support existing plant operations, and contribute to process development initiatives from day one.
What you'll do#
- Develop and maintain applications to control manufacturing processes.
- Identify and implement initiatives to improve equipment reliability, productivity, and availability while reducing maintenance costs.
- Troubleshoot and optimize existing production processes.
- Create engineering flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and mass and energy balances.
- Develop equipment specifications and perform technical due diligence, including issuing bid tabs and risk assessments.
- Gather and evaluate data for product development, scale-up, and commissioning.
- Recommend, configure, and troubleshoot process instrumentation and electrical connections.
- Create control system documentation and explore new diagnostic technologies.
- Participate in improvement processes such as 5S, Kaizen, and Standard Work.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Mining, or Industrial Engineering.
- Relevant academic projects, laboratory work, or previous internship experience.
- Ability to read, understand, and generate engineering drawings like P&ID and PFD.
- Familiarity with standard chemical plant unit operations.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

- Requirements: You may work in office, laboratory, or manufacturing environments. Use of site-specific personal protective equipment is mandatory when in production or field areas.
