About the role#
Minerals Technologies Inc. is seeking an Engineering Intern to join our team in Canaan, Connecticut. You will work alongside experienced professionals to solve real business challenges within our manufacturing operations. This internship provides hands-on experience in process support and manufacturing engineering.
What you'll do#
- Develop and maintain applications to control manufacturing processes.
- Identify and implement initiatives to improve equipment availability, reliability, and productivity while reducing maintenance costs.
- Troubleshoot and optimize existing plant processes.
- Create engineering flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, and mass and energy balances.
- Compile and maintain basis of design information.
- Identify technologies and unit operations for process upgrades.
- Develop new processes for improved products.
- Gather and evaluate data for product scale-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Prepare equipment specifications and conduct technical due diligence.
- Configure, commission, and troubleshoot process instrumentation and electrical connections.
- Create control system documentation and explore new diagnostic technologies.
- Participate in sustainable improvement processes like 5S, Kaizen, and Standard Work.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
- Relevant academic projects, laboratory work, or previous internship experience.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in English with clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with standard chemical plant unit operations.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read and generate engineering drawings, including P&IDs and PFDs.
