About the role#
As an Intern Compute System Compatibility Engineer, you will join our System Enablement and Test Development teams. You will gain hands-on experience with platform bring-up, system configuration, memory validation, and test development. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to learn about DRAM, BIOS and firmware interactions, computer architecture, and the memory product lifecycle. You will also complete a bounded technical project with defined milestones and a final presentation.
What you'll do#
- Set up and support Intel, AMD, and ARM-based systems in Linux, Windows, and UEFI environments.
- Document hardware, BIOS, firmware, operating system, memory, and test configurations.
- Implement memory validation activities to assess compatibility, stability, reliability, performance, and platform readiness.
- Reproduce and triage failures, collect logs, use issue-tracking systems, and support validation of corrective actions.
- Build or refine automation using Python, PowerShell, C++, or related languages.
- Use approved AI-assisted tools to accelerate code development, test generation, log analysis, and technical research while independently validating all outputs.
- Apply responsible AI practices by protecting confidential information and identifying potential errors or bias.
- Collaborate with System Enablement, Test Engineering, product, quality, and program teams.
- Communicate findings, risks, and recommended next steps through documentation and presentations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- Must be continuing education in the fall term following the internship with an expected graduation date no earlier than September 2027.
- Foundational knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, computer architecture, and structured problem-solving.
- Programming or scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, C++, or a comparable language.
- Basic proficiency using AI-enabled tools to research technical topics, develop code, or analyze data.
- Ability to follow test procedures, maintain configuration records, and summarize technical results.
- Interest in laboratory validation, system debug, test development, or engineering automation.
- Preferred: Experience with DRAM, BIOS, UEFI, firmware, x86 or ARM architectures, and diagnostic tools like oscilloscopes or logic analyzers.
