About the role#
MetOx International is seeking a Process Engineering Intern for the Summer 2026 term. This full-time, on-site position at our Houston, Texas headquarters provides hands-on experience with production processes, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will work alongside experienced engineers to support projects related to superconducting technology.
What you'll do#
- Operate characterization tools including SEM, EDX, Optical Microscopy, and XRD for defect identification and library maintenance.
- Perform sample preparation and destructive testing, such as peel tests and electromechanical property tests.
- Provide hands-on support to process engineers in executing Department of Energy (DOE) protocols, including tracking product flow and documenting results.
- Conduct statistical data analysis, participate in root cause analysis, and perform hypothesis testing.
- Develop and maintain defect tracking dashboards and correlate findings to process metrics.
- Write and publish Failure Analysis (FA) reports, technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and maintenance, to resolve technical issues and support ongoing projects.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous internship or co-op experience in a process or manufacturing engineering role.
- Practical experience with characterization tools such as SEM, EDX, Optical Microscopy, and XRD.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis tools like JMP or Minitab.
- A basic understanding of process engineering principles, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data reporting.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret technical information.
- Experience working in a lab or manufacturing environment with a focus on safety protocols.
