About the role#
The Surreal Vision group at Reality Labs Research is looking for Research Scientist Interns to advance the post-training of vision-language and omni models. You will work on reinforcement learning methods to improve multimodal reasoning, temporal understanding, and decision-making for future contextual AI devices. Internships last between 12 and 24 weeks with flexible start dates.
What you'll do#
- Plan and execute research to advance multimodal post-training and reinforcement learning.
- Develop training pipelines, reward functions, experiments, and prototype systems in collaboration with other researchers.
- Benchmark reinforcement learning methods against supervised fine-tuning and preference-optimization baselines.
- Analyze model behavior and generalization.
- Publish findings at leading conferences and present outcomes to internal and external audiences.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a PhD in machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, speech and audio processing, reinforcement learning, or a related field.
- Proven research contributions, such as publications at conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ICLR, or ACL.
- Deep learning knowledge with hands-on experience in VLM or omni model post-training.
- Experience implementing deep learning algorithms, designing benchmarks, and using Python with PyTorch.
- Ability to work and communicate across functions in a team environment.
- Familiarity with RL post-training methods, reward modeling, or preference optimization.
- Experience with distributed training and scalable evaluation of multimodal foundation models.
- Research background in video understanding, temporal reasoning, or audio-visual learning.
- Intent to return to a degree program after the internship.
- Must obtain and maintain work authorization in the United States.
Location & details#
- Location: Sunnyvale, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Full-time intern.
