About the role#
The System SW/HW Co-design team explores and develops high-performance technologies for datacenter-scale applications. We optimize the intersection of models, algorithms, and hardware, including compute, networking, and storage. As an intern on the CPUSys team, you will help define our next-generation compute and storage architectures. You will work with internal engineering teams to analyze infrastructure requirements and drive technology path-finding for our fleet.
What you'll do#
- Develop tools and methodologies for large-scale workload analysis to extract representative benchmarks.
- Analyze workload trends and business needs to determine requirements for future offerings.
- Use your knowledge of distributed systems to understand how they interact with compute and storage.
- Identify bottlenecks by applying an understanding of CPUs, GPUs, networking, and storage systems like Flash and HDD.
- Collaborate with software developers to re-architect services and improve codebases.
- Identify industry trends and analyze emerging technologies.
- Conduct prototyping to quantify value and create adoption plans.
- Influence hardware roadmaps and work with cross-functional teams to deliver these into production.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program for Computer Science or a related STEM field.
- Experience with hardware architecture, compute technologies, or storage systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain work authorization in the country of employment.
- Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.
- Architectural understanding of CPUs, GPUs, accelerators, networking, and storage.
- Experience with large-scale infrastructure and full-stack analysis of server applications.
- Proficiency in C, C++, Rust, Python, or PyTorch.
- A history of research results, such as first-authored publications, patents, or fellowships.
- Experience leading teams in quantitative problem solving and communicating research to peers.
Location & details#
- Location: Menlo Park, California.
- Term: Rolling start dates with durations between 12 and 24 weeks.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
