About the role#
Meta is seeking Research Interns to join the Meta Recommendation Systems team. This group focuses on advancing AI and machine learning to build unified infrastructure and models for recommendation systems across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. You will work on research that improves how users interact with content, utilizing audio, visual, text, and metadata signals to drive recommendation relevance.
What you'll do#
- Lead research efforts toward long-term goals while setting intermediate milestones for recommendation systems, user modeling, and multi-modal LLM analysis.
- Conduct original research with the goal of applying findings to product development.
- Design, train, and support AI and machine learning libraries to implement new features.
- Engage with the broader research community, including publishing papers and contributing to open source software.
- Communicate research plans, progress, and outcomes to cross-functional partners.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or pursuit of a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
- Experience with Python and deep learning libraries like PyTorch and Transformers.
- Familiarity with AI and ML techniques, such as multimodal LLMs, RAG, LSTMs, GRUs, Transformers, and reinforcement learning.
- Experience building systems using deep learning or machine learning methods.
- A track record of research success, such as publications at conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, RecSys, CVPR, or ACL.
- Prior project experience in areas like sequence modeling, user modeling, LLMs, or agentic AI.
- Demonstrated software engineering experience through internships, work, or open source contributions.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
- Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.
- Valid work authorization in the United States at the time of hire and throughout the internship.
