About the role#
This internship focuses on numerical acoustics and audio research. You will work with a team of researchers and engineers to develop technologies for virtual and augmented reality. The role involves designing and implementing algorithms to solve complex audio problems. Internships last between 12 and 24 weeks with rolling start dates.
What you'll do#
- Design, document, and optimize novel algorithms for audio research.
- Create and execute experiments to test new audio technologies.
- Collaborate with researchers across audio and acoustic engineering fields.
- Work with software engineers to integrate and optimize research code.
- Communicate your research agenda, progress, and results to the team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or pursuit of a PhD in Acoustics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- At least one year of experience with wave phenomena, acoustic simulation, numerical modeling, or physics-based modeling.
- Coding proficiency in C/C++, CUDA, MPI, OpenMP, Python, or MATLAB.
- Expertise in numerical simulation of acoustics, such as raytracing, wave-based modeling, spatial rendering, or vibroacoustics.
- Ability to maintain work authorization in the United States throughout the internship.
- Strong mathematical foundation in linear algebra, computational physics, and numerical methods.
- Experience with parallel computing, data structures, and large-scale systems is preferred.
- A track record of research contributions in conferences or journals like DAFx, WASPAA, or JASA is a plus.
- An intent to return to your degree program after the internship ends.
