About the role#
The MTIA Software team builds high-performance software and hardware technologies for AI at datacenter scale. You will work on co-optimizing software algorithms and hardware platforms to improve system design, performance, and efficiency for AI production models.
What you'll do#
- Develop software stacks focused on AI frameworks, compiler stacks, or high-performance kernel development for next-generation hardware.
- Contribute to PyTorch core compilers to support new AI hardware accelerators.
- Analyze deep learning networks and implement compiler optimization algorithms.
- Collaborate with researchers to accelerate models like Generative AI, recommendation systems, NLP, and computer vision.
- Tune performance for deep learning frameworks and software components.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
- Research experience in AI compilers, high-performance kernel development, deep learning framework internals, or parallelism strategies for large-scale training.
- Understanding of machine learning systems, computer architecture, memory hierarchies, and parallel execution.
- Proficiency in C, C++, Python, or Rust.
- Ability to obtain and maintain work authorization in the country of employment.
- Experience with compiler optimizations like loop vectorization or parallelization, and tools such as MLIR, LLVM, IREE, XLA, TVM, or Halide.
- Experience with training and inference components like PyTorch, vLLM, SGLang, TensorFlow, or TensorRT.
- Skills in CUDA, OpenMP, OpenCL, or AI hardware kernel programming.
- Experience with acceleration libraries like cuBLAS, cuDNN, CUTLASS, HIP, or ROCm.
- Knowledge of performance optimization, including latency analysis, memory bandwidth, and compute utilization.
- A track record of research publications at systems or ML conferences.
- Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.

- Modality: On-site.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
- Terms are rolling with durations between 12 and 24 weeks.
