About the role#
Meta is seeking Research Scientist Interns to join the AI Search research team. This role focuses on advancing artificial intelligence by creating systems that learn from their own experiences. You will work on improving search and reasoning workflows, helping agents retain knowledge, and ensuring these improvements transfer to new tasks. Interns work in one of three research areas: improving research workflows, persistent memory and continual learning, or learning from imperfect feedback. The goal is to conduct research that contributes to a first-author submission at a leading machine learning or natural language processing venue.
What you'll do#
- Develop new methods for self-improving, agentic AI systems using deep learning and reinforcement learning.
- Design and run experiments to test if agent improvements generalize to unseen tasks.
- Analyze and improve the reliability of your methods.
- Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners to communicate plans and results.
- Publish your research findings and contribute to work that supports Meta product development.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, or a related technical field.
- Research experience in machine learning, deep learning, or natural language processing.
- Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.
- A track record of results, such as first-authored publications at conferences like NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, ACL, EMNLP, or COLM.
- Experience with large language models, agentic systems, reinforcement learning, or distributed training.
- Software engineering experience through internships, work, or open-source contributions.
- Ability to obtain and maintain work authorization in the United States.
Location & details#
- Location: Menlo Park, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling start dates with a duration of 12 to 24 weeks.
- Employment: Full-time paid internship.
